PhotoForge

Raster and vector, finally in one canvas.

A combined raster and vector editor: layers, non-destructive adjustments and live filters, a full vector toolchain, real colour management and an on-device AI stack.

Coming soon · Windows, macOS, Linux

Layers, masks and adjustments Non-destructive editing with adjustment and live filter layers.

Layers without limits

Groups with isolated blending, 16 blend modes including Adobe-accurate non-separable modes, clipping, raster and vector masks, and layer styles.

Non-destructive adjustments

Curves, Levels, Channel Mixer, Gradient Map, Selective Colour and more as adjustment layers — plus live filter layers and a smart-filter stack.

A complete vector toolchain

Pen, curvature and freeform tools, 14 parametric shapes, real pathfinder booleans, variable-width strokes, gradient mesh, blends and symbols.

On-device AI

Background removal, Select Subject, denoise, super-resolution, style transfer and prompt-driven Generative Fill, running locally on your GPU.

PhotoForge is a native, GPU-accelerated editor that treats pixels and paths as equals. Retouch a photograph, build a logo and lay out a poster without bouncing between apps — every layer type lives in the same document, with the same undo history.

Built for real work

  • Non-destructive by default. Adjustment layers, live filter layers and a smart-filter stack keep every edit reversible.
  • Colour you can trust. LittleCMS-backed ICC management, soft-proofing, and 16/32-bit pipelines from RAW to print.
  • AI that runs on your machine. Background removal, Select Subject, denoise, super-resolution and prompt-driven Generative Fill — with honest CPU fallbacks when no GPU is available.

Open, chunked file format

Documents are saved as .pforge, an open chunked format designed for forward compatibility: files written by newer versions still open in older ones.

FAQ

Questions about PhotoForge

Can PhotoForge open Photoshop files?

Yes — PSD files open with their layers. PhotoForge saves to its own open .pforge format and exports to PSD, TIFF, PNG, JPEG, WebP, SVG and PDF.

Does the AI send my images anywhere?

No. Every AI feature runs locally with ONNX Runtime. Nothing leaves your machine.

Which operating systems are supported?

Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit), macOS, and Linux (Debian/Ubuntu .deb, AppImage and tarball).

Do I need a graphics card?

An OpenGL-capable GPU is required for the canvas. AI features use your GPU when available (DirectML, CoreML or CUDA) and fall back to the CPU otherwise.
